A Munich Period Apartment as a Stage for Art, Color, and Contrasts
In the heart of Munich, a 90-square-meter period apartment has been transformed into an urban oasis for a gallerist couple and their family. Conceived as a second home, it deliberately contrasts the minimalist restraint of their countryside residence—bold, playful, and vibrant, yet as refined as a boutique hotel.

Play of Color & Diversity of Materials
A finely tuned mix of materials defines the entire interior: terrazzo floors, developed in collaboration with Via Terrazzo, lend an Italian flair. Geometrically laid parquet underscores the historic character of the apartment. Recurring clay-toned walls bring a sense of calm—contrasted by colorful tiles from Ceramica Vogue, patterned wallpapers from Dedar, and textiles by Pierre Frey.

Contrasts with Intention
Here, design icons meet bursts of color: furniture by Cassina, Muller van Severen, Tacchini, and Hay appears in deep orange, turquoise, or dark blue. Lacquered surfaces, lighting by Atelier Areti, Dimore Milano, Favius, and llotllov, as well as strategically placed tiles beyond the kitchen, create deliberate contrasts full of character.

Compact in Thought, Brilliant in Execution
Even within a small footprint, every centimeter has been put to use. The master bedroom measures just 12 square meters, yet still accommodates a dresser and a dressing area. In the children’s room, a custom-built bed in a niche with a rounded arch transforms into a cozy hideaway when closed off by a curtain. Another bunk bed with red tubular steel elements enhances the creative layout.
In the kitchen, a curved bench with integrated storage ensures the family can gather around a small marble table—functional, well considered, and inviting.
Love for Detail
A special highlight: the doors were custom-designed for this project by Design S. Despite the low passage heights, elegant casings visually elongate the proportions and blend seamlessly into the historic spatial structure.
