Turning to ethics
These inspired creations lie halfway between art and design, defying definition. Domingos Tótora's new Mantiqueira for Tacchini Edizioni is an original artistic embodiment of how nature and craftsmanship evoke a turn toward ethics.
The Brazilian designer creates these objects from recycled cardboard, imbuing them with all the authentic intensity of this material, which is given new life and shaped. Tótora's vases are the result of a certified, sustainable, and labor-intensive process in which recycled cardboard is shredded into a pulp, then hand-tooled and shaped to create sculptural pieces that are then sun-dried and finished. The artistic process is highly evocative, as it transforms the cardboard, a derivative of wood, into something very similar to the wood from which it was derived.
