Welcome to an extraordinary interior project that brings Stephanie Thatenhorst’s unmistakable style into focus. Across 88 square meters in the Van B penthouse in Munich, exciting and unprecedented new creations have taken shape. Her internationally influenced, eclectic style masterfully combines warm and cool materials as well as diverse surfaces and textures. This project was conceived for Bauwerk, Van B, and AD.

Upon entering the apartment, you are immediately embraced by a cozy atmosphere. The dining area reveals a skillful fusion of different elements: a round table (Desalto) paired with inviting wooden chairs (Gubi), a contemporary reissue of a design classic, form a welcoming centerpiece. Particularly striking is the custom-made console, seamlessly clad in bold red wall tiles (Mutina via Die Fliese), which lend the space its unmistakable character.

In the living area, the seamless transition from the striking red wall tiles to the innovative Panoplie wall and floor system by CC-Tapis makes a bold impression. This carpet concept has been creatively integrated into the design. The lounger (Tacchini) adds another layer, blending effortlessly into the overall composition. The shift from cool tiles to the soft textile surfaces on both wall and floor creates a unique sense of depth and inviting comfort.

The open fitted kitchen on the opposite side impresses with its perfect combination of functionality and elegance. Here, polished stainless steel and warm wooden paneling (Kienle) merge in harmonious balance. This appealing interplay of modern sophistication and inviting warmth creates a distinctive atmosphere. An open shelving unit replaces conventional wall cabinets, providing not only storage but also a light and airy sense of space.
In the sleeping area, a fabric-covered double bed (Gallotti & Radice with Pierre Frey fabric and a CocoMat mattress) rests on a round high-pile rug (Kvadrat). Soft shades of cream and light blue dominate the textiles, harmonizing beautifully with the cool petrol side tables (Miniforms) and the stainless steel wall shelf (Frama). On either side, wall lights (Nemo) with blue glass shades add striking accents to the room.

Behind the glass-block wall lies the dressing area, where the striking contrast between warm and cool materials comes to the fore. A carpet system by CC-Tapis extends seamlessly from the walls to the floor, while open stainless steel wall shelves (Frama) provide practical storage. A side table and a cream-colored pouf (both Gallotti & Radice) serve as both surface and seating. A sophisticated floor mirror (Glas Italia) adds an extra touch of light.

In this small bathroom, the delicate peach-pink clay finish (Nendo) creates a refreshing and bright atmosphere. Playful lilac accents, whether in the mirror (OUT) or the vanity, add a sense of freshness and vitality.
The standout feature is the rug (CC-Tapis), which lends the space a whimsical and inviting touch. Despite its limited size, the bathroom radiates a fresh character, offering a unique and welcoming flair.

On this enchanting rooftop terrace—accessible via a private staircase that is also lined with the same carpet as the dressing area—you’ll find a wonderful retreat high above the rooftops of Schwabing. Covering around 43 square meters, it offers a picturesque view.
At the rear of the terrace, a cozy lounge corner by Acapulco Design invites relaxed moments, while an outdoor seating set (Gubi) for two provides the perfect spot to unwind and enjoy. Above the dining area, a fringed sunshade (Lobster’s Day) casts shade and adds to the holiday spirit. Once the final planting is complete, this rooftop terrace will undoubtedly become a small, green oasis in the heart of the city.
