In the heart of the Bavarian foothills, Stephanie Thatenhorst has transformed a former hay barn on her family’s property into a modern, personal retreat. The project exemplifies her design approach: a thoughtful engagement with history and materials, the seamless connection between nature and architecture, and the interplay of stylish minimalism and warm accents.
Exposed wooden beams, clay-plastered walls, and a minimalist cement floor meet vintage furniture, fine fabrics, and modern design. The result is a place of calm and comfort, a retreat for family and friends, but also a milestone in her career: “The barn was my first passion project – and the beginning of everything.”
Large windows open onto views of meadows, mountains, and picturesque houses. The open floor plan and subtle accents of color convey both tranquility and a sense of spaciousness. Two bedrooms, two children’s rooms, and a generous living area with kitchen provide ample space for family and guests.
